Selective deuterium substitutions play a role in altering the metabolism and absorption properties of drugs due to kinetic isotope effects. Alcohol compounds and their derivatives are important fragments for the synthesis of many active compounds. Therefore, we have reason to believe that the synthesis of deuterated alcohols is of great significance for deuterated drugs with improved safety and/or efficacy.
