With regard to the recent post on Skilling Guilds (Guilds which aren't focused
on combat-related skills) in a QnA, I was curious what the opinions of the
community are on Guilds in OSRS. I personally feel that there are three
standards that I would expect to see from Skilling Guilds:
Desirability to Utilize the Guild for Skilling: I believe that there should be
some form of incentive to the member to use the facilities offered by the
Guild, with an initial focus on growing your knowledge of the skill. This is
sensible since the Guild would likely prefer to see their members improve and
grow in their respective fields. Guild can be a good place to improve one's
skills as well as to increase the potential knowledge accumulated by the Guild
because it has many expert members who adventure across the globe. It is the
Woodcutting Guild is a good example of this with it's tree biodiversity and
the elusive +7 Boost . However, the Crafting Guild is a bad example because it
is only used for the bank vault (Although it's fair to say, I'm not certain of
what desirability can be put into a Production Based Skills like Crafting
without it being controversial.).
Unique or Exclusive Content I can imagine that a space designed for the top of
the best in a certain skill would have unique or exclusive features as a
result of possessing the majority of members who have the right to claim
proficiency in their field. Since a lot of the people with expertise in the
field of adventure It is only natural that they will seek out and lay claim to
rare items that could benefit the Guild and expand its collective knowledge.
The Farming Guild is a great illustration of this correctly , in my opinion.
the Hespori Patch and the Celastrus Patch, and the Redwood Patch. But it is
the Fishing Guild is a great example of this being done in a way that is not
correct; a Fishing Boss was placed in the middle of the Desert in place of the
guild's location to Fishers was a sorely wasted opportunity (Although fighting
a huge Catfish at the bottom of the water would be cool if executed correctly
and fit better than just splashing around the people a slightly).
A Hub for Players aiming to, or already have Skills Mastery The concept of a
Guild should possess a somewhat social element including the possibility of
introducing Skilling Clans, or even a notice board on which Guild members can
submit needs and get certain rewards. I believe that OSRS should include
Guilds function as hubs for players who are looking to make use of their skill
mastery or wish to possess mastery over their skill as just an idea of course
and that would include increasing the social aspect of player engagement in
this point as opposed to simply increasing foot traffic in the first two
points. Ideally, this would include players helping each other as well, which
I believe should be built into Guilds to serve as a space for teaching.
Let me know what you consider about the ideas I mentioned in relation to my
expectations for Guilds or if there's something you feel I should to clarify
here, let me know your own personal opinions on the function of Guilds within
OSRS. Honestly, I think it would be fascinating to see larger importance be
given to something with the potential to be so powerful. Even though this
article is not addressing Combat Oriented Skills, I would like to hear what
the opinion of the community is on the need to address those Guilds as well.
